History of Central Scotland Horse Trials
On 30 April 1950, the first one day combined training test to be held anywhere in Britain took place at Hallyburton, Coupar Angus.  The event was organised by the Central Scotland Committee under the chairmanship of the late Colonel Lindsay of Hallyburton.  It had three phases: dressage, roads and tracks, and cross country.  This was the start of one day eventing in Britain, which has led to outstanding performances by British teams in competitions all over the world and, we hope, again in the Olympic Games later this year.

After two years the roads and tracks phase was replaced by showjumping, the event was recognised by the British Horse Society and thus the One Day Event was born.

Central Scotland Horse Trials has been held continuously ever since:
Hallyburton           1950 - 1957
Scone Palace       1958 - 1961
Hallyburton           1962 - 1963
Hall of Aberuthven 1964 - 1973
Dunsinann Estate 1974 - 1987 (with one cancellation in an exceptionally wet autumn of 1985)
Drummond Castle 1988 - 1990
Scone Palace       1990 - date
